東京大学中東地域研究センター（UTCMES）主催講演会　Seminar of Mr.Zahran Alqasmi

東京大学中東地域研究センター（UTCMES）主催、『水脈を聴く男』の著者でオマーンの小説家のザフラーン・アルカースィミー氏の講演会をオマーン大使館で拝聴しました。写真左手がザフラ―ン・アルカースィミー氏、右手がオマーン大使モハメッド・アルブサイディ氏。

「水脈を聴く男」はオマーン固有の風土が凝縮した作品ですが、底流にあるのは普遍的なテーマと感じました。「不公正な社会に生きる、周辺化された人々の苦しみを語ることで、不当な権力と闘う。差別に反対し、公正を求める」　創作の中心的課題であり、使命という言葉に情熱が溢れていました。

The University of Tokyo Centre for Middle Eastern Studies held a seminar by Mr. Zahran Alqasmi at the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Tokyo. The story’s motif is Oman’s irrigation system, Aflaj, but it also highlights the people who suffer maltreatment each day in their community.

“Telling torments of marginal people, I am fighting unjust power, opposing discriminations.”  He emphasized it as “Mission” for his dedicated work.

”The narratives should evoke tears from readers.”　So, I understood the melancholy I had after reading the book.
