オリエント急行 Orient Express

「オリエント急行リニューアル」というキャッチの記事を、思わず読んでいました。ですが、それはヨーロッパの高額な列車の紹介でした…。

写真は、真正なるオリエント急行。オリエント急行の依頼で撮影し、パリ―ベニス間の旅を女性誌に発表した時のもの。シニア世代の乗客たちの、時を慈しんでいるという風情が印象的でした。現在、実物のオリエント急行は、箱根ラリック美術館に展示されてティールームになっているようです。

この写真を見ていて何故か思い出したのは、24才の時のシベリア鉄道。ウラジオストックからモスクワまで一週間。車窓は雪と白樺の世界でした。

A news story about the “Orient Express renewal” caught my eye.  After a few minutes, I found  out the train was not a real Orient Express but a new luxury train that would run Europe in 2025.

These photographs were shot when Yoshiko Sato reported Orient Express-Paris-Venice for a Japanese magazine on assignment.　The atmosphere was like dreaming in a classical museum!　The middle-aged and senior passengers were so quiet.

My train trip started the “Siberian Railway”, from Vladivostok to Moscow when I was 24. It took a week, but I never got tired of seeing the snow and white birch from the windows.
